Introduction:
From 1861-1865, the United States was engaged in a war that split our nation in half. Abraham Lincoln had taken office in 1860, and the war was ultimately a fight over slavery. The Civil War was a significant event in our history, and was also one of the first times any major conflict had been photographed. The process to take a photograph was long and difficult, but there are thousands that exist today. These photos gave us another degree of knowledge that words and paintings from previous wars could not convey. Photography during the Civil War was an influential event that advanced technology, record keeping, and communication between humanity.
